Abstract

This paper analyzes the limitations that make difficult the minorities presence inside the French newspapers, especially those from a migratory origin. It’s studied looking at the regulation public policies developed by CSA (Audiovisual Superior Council), which support ethnic and cultural diversity in the media. The methodology is based in a empirical analysis developed from two axes: the first one approaches the journalist perception about ethnic and cultural diversity analyzing the Franco-American Foundation diversity activities. This Foundation creates international events about the media treatment when the immigration is the subject and it also created the “Immigration Journalism Award”. The second one discuss the presence of immigrated journalists inside the newsrooms, using semi-structured interviews. These professional experiences reveal the tension between the social media imagery and the policies that support diversity.
