This article aims to reflect on the concepts of “subaltern classes and groups” developed by Gramsci in his prison work, seeking to highlight his formulations, particularly in Notebook 25. To this end, it is understood that such concepts cannot be understood in isolation from the set of categories Gramsci develops in the Prison Notebooks, and especially from the question of the state and hegemony. It is only within the framework of Gramsci's original and organic lexicon that subalternity can be understood, analyzed, and connected to the guiding thread that mediates his entire prison project: the revolutionary project.
