The act of teaching is at risk. It is necessary to protect it, nurture it and clear its way. Never before has it been so necessary. That is why such an essay is proposed. Through the dialectical method, with a vast tradition in humanistic thinking, the following exposition aims to shape a critical inquiry - through literature review, methodological criticism and notes obtained via participatory-action research carried out throughout the Portuguese territory (2017 -2020) – on the form and meaning of the act of teaching, in the classroom, as the indivisible and most basic elemental unit of work in education at all levels, modalities and formats actually existent.
