The New Generation of Social Policies in the European Context: Workfare and Activation Measures

Abstract

This article analyzes the configuration – in the nation sates that constitute the European Union – of a new generation of social policies governed by the logic of activation, aimed predominately at the insertion of people in the labor market. It reviews articles by European authors who analyze the transformations that have occurred in social protection systems in these countries. It found that this logic combines a series of characteristics that support programs, projects and actions marked by their disciplinary and punitive content and which require recipients to offer counterparts for the benefits received.

Liliane Moser, UFSC - Florianópolis - SC

Possui graduação em Serviço Social pela Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (1988), mestrado em Sociologia Política pela Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (1993) e doutorado em Serviço Social pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (2006). Atualmente é professora adjunto I da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, junto ao Centro Sócio Econômico/Departamento de Serviço Social. Tem experiência na área de Serviço Social, com ênfase em Política Social e Trabalho, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: políticas sociais, trabalho, programas de transferência de renda e prática profissional.
