A influência do “modelo centrado na doença” no uso de medicamentos para problemas de aprendizagem na escola

Resumo

Nosso objetivo é refletir de que modos o “modelo centrado na doença” para o efeito dos medicamentos em psiquiatria, elaborado por Joanna Moncrieff, pode influenciar o seu uso, em especial o metilfenidato (Ritalina®) para o Transtorno de Déficit de Atenção com Hiperatividade (TDAH), a partir de problemas de comportamento ou aprendizagem na escola. Muitos diagnósticos em saúde mental na infância são identificados na instituição escolar como, por exemplo, o TDAH. Esse diagnóstico costuma ser explicado como sendo resultado de um desequilíbrio cerebral, e o metilfenidato seria um tratamento específico para corrigir esse desequilíbrio, caracterizando o “modelo centrado na doença” para a ação dos fármacos no organismo. Argumentamos que esse modelo amplia o processo de medicalização da infância e da aprendizagem escolar, tornando banal a utilização de medicamentos para “corrigir” comportamentos e melhorar o desempenho acadêmico.
