Climate change, technical evaluation and public opinion: iberian perspectives in a European context

Considering the triggered scenario by climate change (CA) and the European context, this article aims to contribute to a general assessment of the situation in Iberian countries, with two types of complementary data. On the one hand, objective data based on technical and scientific knowledge provided at the Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI), which includes consultation with experts. On the other hand, using surveys of European public opinion on the same matters (Special Eurobarometer 490 2019), the lay point of views (i.e., citizens’ perceptions and attitudes) are analyzed. Globally, one can conclude that there is a certain distance between experts and laypeople regarding the CC problem and its consequences, and the urgency of their clear connection becomes a bright condition to achieve a faster, more productive, and also fairer adaptive processReferences
