Our aim is to review Gangolf Hübinger’s most recent contribution to the Weber Studies, showing
how intellectual history comprehends one of the very few domains in human sciences through
which it is possible to understand and even to explain Weber in a Weberian way. This innovative
approach further develops Koselleck’s theory about the connection between methodological
innovations and the emergence of Zeitschwellen, in dialogue with Lepsius’ concept of social-
moral milieu.
