Resumen

En este artículo me propongo examinar los procesos cognitivos y perceptivos mediante los cuales ocurre el reconocimiento de emociones. Para ello, partiré de la comparación entre dos explicaciones rivales: i) aquellas que intentan explicar el reconocimiento de emociones por medio de mecanismos inferenciales vs. ii) aquellas que lo explican por medio de la tesis de la percepción social directa y sin la intermediación de inferencias, explicitando los supuestos conceptuales sobre los que se erigen ambas propuestas. Luego, sostendré que, si se acepta la propuesta de la percepción directa de emociones, resta la tarea de dar cuenta de cuáles son los procesos o mecanismos cognitivos que subyacen a estas experiencias. Especialmente, voy a sostener que el aprendizaje perceptual es una hipótesis valiosa para explicar al menos algunos casos de reconocimiento de emociones.
