A Recent Political-Religious Movement: Islamic Feminism

This paper aims to display a panel of origin and main theoretical formulations of Islamic feminism, political-religious movement of fight against oppression and domination over the women’s population, present in Muslim countries and in Muslim diasporas. Here conceived broadly as a feminist praxis associated to the reinterpretation of the religious sources of Islam, based on the Islamic concept of ijtihad (free and rational interpretation of religious sources) and tafsir (commentaries on the koran), to rethink the position of women in society Muslim. In this sense, it will be addressed Egypt and Turkey, two key countries in the construction of feminisms in the Middle East.Downloads
