In this article, we start from the existing relationship, but not a dependency, between multiliteracies and multimodality studies for, then, examine a text that was digitally produced and distributed. We apply partially a metalanguage proposed by Kress and Van Leeuwen for multimodal texts and its strata. Based on an example of a “meme”, we inquire aspects of contemporary semiotic theory and processes, in order to better understand both the theoretical propositions, which date back to the turn of the millennium, as well as the texts present in our current reading and writing practices.
