Trilingual Glossary of Idiomatic Expressions from the Book Un Amor de Novela Vol. 1: Reflections on Cultural Factors and the Inclusion of Deaf Students in Spanish Language Education

Abstract

This article presents an excerpt from an ongoing master’s research project that proposes the development of a trilingual glossary in the Spanish/Portuguese/Libras direction, focusing on idiomatic expressions that are part of the work Un Amor de Novela, vol. 1, by Prof. Dr. Adja Balbino de Amorim Barbieri Durão. This excerpt from the original research aims to reflect on the linguistic and cultural challenges involved in the translation and adaptation of idiomatic expressions across the selected languages, based on two lexicographic entries developed within the author's original research. Through these entries, the study seeks to illustrate how appropriate strategies can facilitate the comprehension of idiomatic expressions, and how respecting the linguistic and cultural specificities of target audiences can contribute to valuing linguistic diversity and promoting linguistic accessibility in foreign language education, both for deaf and hearing students.
