DIGITAL INTEGRATION IN LOGISTICS MATURITY RESEARCH: A SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW AND CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

Resumo

Logistics maturity models assess organizational capabilities and support continuous improvement, but they provide limited consideration of digital integration as a capability connecting systems, processes, data, organizational functions, and supply chain actors. This study examines how digital integration has been incorporated into logistics maturity research. A systematic literature review guided by PRISMA 2020 analyzed 92 studies: 78 identified through Scopus and Web of Science searches covering January 1, 2017 to November 30, 2025, and 14 added through citation searching. Bibliometric analyses identified three substantive streams—supply chain and digital capabilities, Industry 4.0 and manufacturing automation, and data analytics and supply chain performance—and one methodological stream related to quantitative assessment. Qualitative synthesis organized digital integration into four dimensions: technological and systems integration, data and information integration, process integration, and organizational and interorganizational
integration. The resulting framework positions logistics maturity as the assessment perspective for examining these dimensions. It provides a conceptual basis for future model development, while the proposed assessment elements and relationships with logistics outcomes require operationalization and empirical validation.

Rodrigo Stockler Tognetti is a PhD researcher in Mechanical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano. He holds an MSc in Industrial Engineering from the UFSC and a BEng in Mechanical Production Engineering from University of São Paulo. He worked as a supplier development manager, operations manager in several companies and currently his research interests include industrial data analysis, and artificial intelligence for condition monitoring.

Carlos Taboada, Galileo Amazon Institute of Technology and Education

Carlos M. Taboada Rodríguez holds a PhD in Economic Engineering from Technische Universität Dresden and a degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Havana. He is a professor at the Galileo Amazon Institute of Technology and Education and a full professor affiliated with the Graduate Program in Industrial Engineering at UFSC. His research focuses on logistics maturity, SC sustainability, and Industry 4.0 logistics.

Ricardo Chalmeta, Jaume I University

Ricardo Chalmeta holds a PhD from the Universitat Politècnica de València and is a full professor at Universitat Jaume I. He founded and leads the Integration and Systems Re-engineering Research Group and has coordinated research and industry-funded R&D projects. His research interests include enterprise integration, business intelligence, SC sustainability, and digital technologies for organizational management.

Neimar Follmann, Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná

Neimar Follmann holds a PhD and an MSc in Industrial Engineering from the Federal University of Santa Catarina and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the Federal University of Technology – Paraná. He is an associate professor at UTFPR and his research interests include logistics maturity, performance measurement, benchmarking, logistics costs, transportation, and the Theory of Constraints.
