Vol. 21 No. 1 (2022): Dossiê Republicanismo: uma visão normativa / Republicanism: a normative view

Throughout the history of philosophy, republicanism was associated with the idea of freedom as self-government, however, neo-republicanism inaugurated a normative conception according to which republicanism, in fact, had defended freedom as non-domination, while more populist political theories would have been based on freedom as self-government. In this dossier, we intend to rescue the political conceptions that were called republican precisely because they were based on self-government, although it is desirable to relate it to the debate on non-domination.
