Multiprofessional training of health students on autistic spectrum disorder: an extensionist outreach experience

This article aims to report on the experience gained through the extension project “Autism and Inclusion: Multiprofessional Training for Health Students,” highlighting its contributions to both academic training and the community. The project was carried out from April to November 2022 and featured monthly discussion circles via Google Meet, where topics related to autism were discussed under the guidance of specialists. While the meetings initially targeted undergraduate health students, participation later expanded to include health professionals and family members of children with ASD. The project was promoted through the creation of event-specific graphics posted on Instagram, accompanied by a registration link via Google Forms. This project strengthened the bond between the university and the community and contributed to fostering a society better informed about autism, as evidenced by the participation of individuals from various regions of Brazil. Through this project, it was possible to disseminate information about autism beyond the university setting; the process revealed a need for greater knowledge regarding this topic among undergraduates, health professionals, and family members, highlighting the necessity of developing future projects specifically focused on engaging families on the subject of ASD.
