Literacy and literacy practices with older people

This article aims to promote qualitative analysis of didactic mediation developed remotely in times of the covid-19 pandemic, with elderly people registered in the Open University for the Third Age Program (UATI), linked to the Pro-Rectory of Extension (Proex) of the State University of Feira de Santana (UEFS). A literacy workshop was proposed with the objective of, based on the concepts of literacy, phonological awareness, literacy and maturity, to foster in the participants a greater interaction, mastery of writing and reading, besides strengthening the use and contact with Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), aiming to give more autonomy to the subjects. The activities were developed and proposed through WhatsApp. Unfortunately, due to socioeconomic disparities, not all elderly people have digital access. But those few who had access to the media were able to interact, learn, and exchange knowledge among themselves and with the monitors. The didactic mediation process provoked social interactions, seeking to deconstruct stereotypical conceptions about aging, which in our society is often seen as a limiting phase of life, fostering the horizontalization of knowledge and values with the elderly.
