Formatting and editing the academic text in an extension course

In this paper, we present our experiences in offering the extension course Editing and Formatting Academic Texts. Therefore, we discuss the notion of formatting and editing academic texts as a fundamental part of the process of training higher education students in terms of knowledge and experiences with academic textual genres. Because we have adopted the theoretical perspective of Academic Literacy, we methodologically consider the prior knowledge that students could have about the manipulation of texts in automatic editors, characterizing the referred course as content update and assistance to the academic training of the participants. As a result, in addition to the course offering itself, we present the creation of a didactic and multimodal material that supported the course, in addition to the opportunity for the course to have taken place virtually, due to the social distance imposed by the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.
