Sociologia da linguagem e sua relação com a macro e a microsssociolinguística

O artigo discorre sobre como a sociologia da linguagem – em sua relação com a macro e a microssociolinguística – se organiza enquanto campo do saber, o que inclui sua delimitação, os temas, a orientação teórico-metodológica e os objetos. Nos interessa averiguar o percurso histórico de constituição da sociologia da linguagem na sua relação com a sociolinguística, atentando para a maneira como essa constituição influenciou e foi influenciada, também, pela definição do próprio campo sociolinguístico. Para tanto, dois elementos são explorados e apresentados: i) sobre a emergência e consolidação do campo da sociologia da linguagem em diálogo com a noção de macrossociolinguística, com base nos trabalhos de Joshua Fishman; e ii) sobre a microssociolinguística e a sua relação com a sociologia da linguagem, a partir dos estudos de William Labov. Este artigo pretende dialogar com o diagnóstico feito por Fishman (1991) sobre uma crise de meia-idade na sociolinguística, atentando para a dimensão social que atravessa os dois eixos, macro e micro, dessa área.
