Abstract

This work organized the research of bilingual education in indigenous languages-Spanish produced during the decade 2002-2011 in Mexico, in three areas: indigenous languages and education, bilingual teaching and bilingual education, and language policy. In the period expanded research, emerged reviews to the old traditions of descriptive linguistics. Also reveal new topics and diversification in research methodologies. The relationship between indigenous languages and education includes studies on worldview and language; the section on bilingual teaching and bilingual education, introduces pedagogical approaches and experiences in bilingual indigenous schools; the third section on language policies includes discussions on ideologies of language that influence education, and discussions about the spelling rules of indigenous languages and their relation to education.
