Language policy and the ethics of care

This article proposes an articulation between language policy and the ethics of care. The following elements underlie our reflection: the political meanings of care, with attention to the concept of ethics of care in its articulation with the feminist criticism and the concept of language; and the implications of these reflections for what we call language policy of care, with a focus on socially situated language practices in Mozambique regarding the political-legislative sphere, the health sphere and the legal-police sphere. We recognize that this political care is crossed by language issues related to: communicative practice, access to information, forms of expression, human rights, social and institutional participation, modes of discursivization and transmission of knowledge.
