Imagetic descriptions present in the Libras Corpus

This study, built on the Corpus of Libras project, examined whether stories inspired by a clip from Charlie Chaplin's 1921 film The Kid contained imagetic descriptions given by seven deaf reference subjects. The EUDICO Linguist Annotator, or ELAN, was applied to transcribe movies for the documentation of Libras in the Corpus project. Using ELAN, we were able to access the transcriptions created using the DV - "descriptive verbs" (depicting verbs) gloss in the annotation tracks of the signs, which correlate to what we refer to as imagetic descriptions in Libras (CAMPELLO, 2008). In this regard, Quadros (2016) supports the claims made by Johnston (1991) and Pizzuto and Pientrandrea (2001) that the transcription of the videos serves as a preliminary data analysis of the DV category. All narratives demonstrated a diversity and high productivity of different transfers present on imagetic descriptions, thereby opening a vast field of research on Libras' iconicity.
