Determining factors in the students´choice for the accountancy course in private universities in São Paulo city - Brazil

Many things affect the choice for a career: parents, friends, a person´s job and even talent. Concerning this, in Accountancy scenario, many acting areas can be detected and influence the choice for a career. In this context, the aim of this research was to identify and analyse what influences the choice of first semestre students for the Accountancy course in private Universities in São Paulo city. It was two-step, descriptive and quali quanti investigation. In-depth interviews were made with six students of two Universities, and the data was treated under Content Analysis. The interviews´ results were important for preparing a questionnaire applied to 123 students from three Universities. The questionaires´answers were treated under the Descriptive Analysis and the Cluster Analysis. The results show that the most relevant things for the choice of a career are employability and career´s perspective. Moreover, parents did not influence direclty in the student´s choices.Downloads
