The collegiate structure of a federal public university from the perspective of the shared leadership approach

Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze characteristics of the theoretical approach of shared leadership in the collegiate structure of a federal public university from a documental analysis . The research is qualitative and descriptive, with the Federal University of Santa Catarina as a case study. Documentary analyzes of the institution's organizational structure, the collegiate character and breadth of the decisions and actors involved were carried out. The results showed a high degree of vertical hierarchy with dozens of collegiate instances, whose decisions have a deliberative character. In collegiate instances, the results showed that there was no top-down leadership, but rather shared leadership, with collaborative interaction between members prevailing. It was concluded that there is interdependence between the collegiate bodies, which does not inhibit a flexible, dynamic, robust and responsive leadership platform, and that when the nature of the body is specialized, the members have collective goals, and when there are different goals, the relationship between members alters the form of shared leadership.
