Smartwatches gain more and more space in the strategic plans of news organizations to attract the attention of news consumers and foster new business models. In this article, the goal is to explore two cases of wearable mobile devices: The New York Times and R7 applications for Apple Watch. From empirical data of systematic observation, observation sheets and interviews with digital editors of the two cases, the analysis addresses the use of smartwatches for journalistic purposes from the concept of glance journalism. The results indicate that in both cases, a well-defined news distribution strategy already exists, in which the news of the smartwatch acts as a trigger and catalyst for the ecosystem of these cases under analysis.
