Foreign policy, national project and economic policy at the end of the Estado Novo regime

Abstract

The present article discusses foreign and economic policy at the end of the Estado Novo regime. We attempt to show how both were conditioned by a project for national development characterized, among other things, by its proposal for a type of development associated with foreign capital. We discuss the nature of Vargas’ nationalism, attempting to elucidate its multiple facets, and in particular, its specific conception of relations with foreign capital and the U.S. Keywords: foreign policy, economic policy, Estado Novo, nationalism, national project.
