Abstract

Total radiography of the spine in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (EIA) is the gold standard for classifying curve severity by the Cobb method.  These patients often need to perform x-rays, which promotes increased radiation exposure. Therefore, other ways of identifying vertebral alterations are being studied. As the computerized photographic methods or photogrammetry.  Thus, the objective of this study was to identify the accuracy of photogrammetry to detect thoracic changes in individuals with AIS.  And a cross-sectional and all-time study was performed with patients diagnosed with Lenke I EIA and healthy adolescents. All of them took pictures of the whole body, with anatomical markers positioned at previously studied points.  To identify the best measurements of angles and distances in the Postural Analysis Software (SAPO) roc curves were determined and the area under the curve was calculated.  Definite as cutoff point for detection of postural changes the combined points of greater sensitivity and specificity. And78 volunteers were evaluated. Scoliosis group (n=47) and control (n=31).  Regarding the angles and distances measured by SAPO, a difference was observed between the groups for the angles and distances. The angles and distances that obtained an area under the ROC curve greater than 0.7 were: A2, A4D/A4E, A5D/A5E, A7 and D1D/D1E. In conclusion, the use of photogrammetry can help in the evaluation by identifying thoracic alterations and can be used as a way of screening the progression of the scoliosis curve, since the angles and relationships have good accuracy to identify Lenke I scoliosis.
