This article aims to discuss the ways in which women are represented in photo novels published by Capricho magazine between 1950 and 1960, the heyday decades of photo novels in Brazil. The reading of this as well as other women’s magazines helped to integrate women in urban society, promoting ways and trends to be followed and copied. To this end, I analyzed twenty photo novels published in Capricho magazine, underscoring the construction of the image of heroes / girls that served as a “models” and inspiration for many women readers of Capricho. Thus, this discussion addresses the participation of the photo novels in the construction of subjectivities and certain ways of being a man and being a woman.Downloads
