[CfP - Vol. 45, Special Issue 1]: Translation in India: Theories, Policies and Practices

With the increasing growth in information and technology, the field of translation has seen several developments across the globe. In line with this, Cadernos de Traduçãois in collaboration with the UNESCO Chair on Language Policies for Multilingualism sets to launch a Special Issue titled Translation in India: Theories, Policies and Practices. Translation in India serves as a vibrant intersection where linguistic diversity converges, fostering cultural exchange and understanding. This thematic exploration seeks contributions from scholars, researchers, and practitioners to delve into the multifaceted landscape of translation within the Indian context.
As higher education practices undergo transformation, we encourage contributors to explore interdisciplinary approaches to Translation and Interpreting Studies, breaking down disciplinary silos and fostering a holistic understanding, particularly in the realms of Translation theories, practices, and policies.
Our special issue recognizes the pivotal role of Translation Technologies and Digital Humanities, acknowledging the transformative impact of technology on the discipline. We welcome contributions that illuminate the current and future intersections between technology and translation practices.
In the backdrop of India’s multilingual and pluricultural context, we emphasize the exploration of multilingualism, translation, and cultural sustainability. This inquiry aims to address a crucial gap in contemporary scholarship by examining the intricate relationship between linguistic diversity, translation, and the preservation of cultural heritage.
Adding another layer of significance, we invite exploration of Translation and Diaspora, shedding light on how translation acts as a vital bridge, defining and connecting cultural identities across geographical boundaries.
Furthermore, we welcome submissions that showcase the pragmatic dimensions of translation, encompassing multimodality, tools, resources, and localization strategies. The call extends to various specialized areas within translation and interpreting, inviting exploration into challenges, opportunities, and the transformative impact of technology on these disciplines.
In light of these key themes, we invite scholars and researchers to contribute their expertise by submitting abstracts in English in the following areas:

Submission guidelines
To propose a manuscript, first send an abstract to the guest editor: umarani.ctindia@yahoo.com .
Proposals must include:
- Provisional title
- Author(s) name(s), affiliation, email address, and Orcid ID
- Abstract (between 250-500 words, excluding references) containing information about the research topic, theoretical framework, and methodology, in addition to the research rationale and relevance to the field
- Five keywords
- List of preliminary references (following APA 7 guidelines)
After approval, authors must provide the full version of the manuscript following the journal’s template.
- Manuscripts must be up to 10 000 words, excluding references.
- Manuscripts may be rejected if they do not follow the journal’s template.
Considering the referees’ reports, the guest editor and, if necessary, the journal editors will also read the accepted manuscripts and suggest improvements.

Deadline for abstracts: June 20, 2024
Notification of acceptance: July 7, 2024
Submission of full manuscripts: October 31, 2024
Submission of peer review reports to authors: December 31, 2024
Final manuscript submission: January 31, 2025
Publication of the special issue: March 2025
