Abstract

This translation review is about the book Tentativa de esgotamento de um local parisiense, work of the French writer Georges Perec (1936-1982), published in Brazil by Gustavo Gili, translated by Ivo Barroso and foreword by Ricardo Luis Silva. This work is the translation of Tentative d'épuisement d'un lieu parisien (1982) first published in the book Le pourrissement des sociétés (1975) by the group Cause Commune. Marked by the infra-ordinary, it is one of several explorations in the literary field proposed by Perec. In order to support and justify the points highlighted in the translation analysis, the author’s researches in the Oulipo and Cause Commune groups, besides the direct relationship of his book with Espèces d'Espaces (1974) will be remembered. The analysis of the translation will start from a comparison between some aspects of the materiality of the text of the French and Brazilian editions, then addressing the way the translator’s voice engage itself in the target text, and finally, the treatment given to the untranslatable of the culture so present in the French text.
