Methodological Guidelines for a Translatological Understanding of Historical Processes of Cultural Interaction

How can the translation process studies contribute to the theory of the interaction of cultures, especially in its application to historical cultural contacts? The aim of this essay is to make explicit the premises of a possible translatological understanding of the historical processes of interaction between cultures–and languages. To this end, some of the main premises of translation studies and translatology, the postulates of translation semiotics and the theory of cultural interaction are put into dialogue. In this way, the aim is to reach a methodological proposal that models cultural interactions from the translation process in order to study them from the translated texts–according to a broad notion of translation. In other words, the aim is to contrast, from a theoretical textual corpus, the possible connections between translation studies and translatology with the methodological postulates of the semiotics of culture.
