Editorial Policy

Review Process

Desk Review

Articles, interviews, and reviews submitted to Cadernos de Tradução are forwarded to the editor-in-chief, assistant editors, or members of the journal's editorial board for an initial assessment (desk review). This review serves as a preliminary evaluation to determine whether the text fits the journal’s guidelines and whether a full external review is warranted. The following aspects are considered during the desk review:

  • Alignment with the journal's focus and scope
  • Quality and clarity of academic writing
  • Appropriate structure for the type of scholarly work (introduction, methodology, analysis, results, conclusions, etc.)
  • Compliance with the journal's formatting and referencing standards
  • Originality, relevance, and scientific contribution to the current field of Translation Studies
Peer Review

If approved in the desk review, the manuscripts are sent for evaluation by reviewers who are members of the editorial board, the scientific board, or ad hoc referees, depending on the paper subject. Authors who have previously published in the journal may also be invited to serve as reviewers.

All reviewers receive the articles through the journal system, and the evaluation can be done blindly or openly. This last one is only if there is agreement between the author and the reviewer. In addition to the manuscript for evaluation, reviewers receive a standard evaluation form and a "conflict of interest" declaration, which must be signed and sent to the journal's editor-in-chief.

Note: There is a conflict of interest when an author (or the author's institution), reviewer or editor has financial or personal relationships that inappropriately influence their actions (bias).

The manuscripts may be:

- Accepted without revisions
- Accepted with minor revisions
- Accepted with major revisions
- Rejected

Decisions regarding both accepted and rejected submissions will be communicated to the authors. The Editorial Team reserves the right not to provide reasons for rejections.

The journal reserves the right to evaluate only one manuscript per author per year

Regarding including images, the responsibility for obtaining reproduction rights shall solely lie with the authors. The journal does not take responsibility for the images submitted. The condition must be accepted by the author upon submission through the portal, as the following model:

"I declare that I am the author, licensee, assignee, or have prior and explicit permission from the author for the use and reproduction of the images found in the manuscript I am submitting for publication in the SciELO-indexed journal Cadernos de Tradução, ISSN 2175-7968, submitted through the UFSC Portal de Periódicos.

Where prior permission has not been obtained to reproduce the work of third parties, according to Brazilian law (Articles 24, 29 and 46 of the Lei brasileira de Direitos Autorais), full responsibility for any copyright violation is assumed by the declarant."

All communication with the journal must be done through the following email addresses: ecadernos@gmail.com or suporte.cadernostraducao@contato.ufsc.br

Adoption of software using Artificial Intelligence resources

The Cadernos de Tradução Journal is aligned with the principles of open science and with the advancement of technologies, especially artificial intelligence (AI), as useful tools in the process of academic writing and production, always valuing originality, integrity, scientific development and knowledge sharing. We have established the following guidelines for the use of AI in the preparation and submission of texts:

1. Permitted Use of Artificial Intelligence

Authors may use Artificial Intelligence exclusively in the following cases:

  • Grammatical and spelling review: Correction of linguistic errors, punctuation, accentuation and style adjustments, as long as the content is not significantly modified and there is no insertion of new information, including information created by the program itself without any scientific basis or verifiable source.
  • Organization of the article structure: Suggestions for improvements in the format, creation of sections and subsections and organization of the content, always respecting the cohesion and coherence of the text.
  • Summaries: Assistance in the preparation of summaries, as long as the final text is the result of an original creation by the author and is subsequently edited to ensure the originality of the text. In addition, AI can be used to summarize paragraphs within the text, as long as the content is not significantly modified and no new information is inserted, including information created by the program itself without any scientific basis or verifiable source.

2. Prohibition of the Use of AI for Content Generation

The use of AI is expressly prohibited for:

  • Creation, elaboration or development of ideas, arguments, discussions or conclusions contained in the article
  • Creation of images, tables, graphs, maps and others in the article.
  • Automated writing of the article's text in whole or in part.
  • Use of Chatbots under any circumstances.

3. Consequences of Misuse of AIs and Chatbots

The Cadernos de Tradução Journal reserves the right to reject any submission that is identified as using AIs or Chatbots that do not follow the journal's guidelines. Furthermore, if misuse of such tools is identified, whether in the initial stage of submission, evaluation or even after publication, the journal may:

  • Remove the article from the submission portal or from the published issue
  • Take appropriate legal action depending on the severity of the case.

4. Other issues

Any questions regarding the actions accepted by the journal, authors should contact the editors. At the end of the article, in the template, authors must explicitly state which AI was used and what function the tool performed.

Sex and Gender Issues

The editorial team of Cadernos de Tradução, in addition to the authors who publish in the journal, must always observe the guidelines on Sex and Gender Equity in Research (Sex and Gender Equity in Research – SAGER). The SAGER guidelines comprise a set of guidelines that guide the reporting of information on sex and gender in study design, data analysis, and results and interpretation of findings. In addition, Cadernos de Tradução observes the gender equity policy in the formation of its editorial board.
