The thematic approach in science education: characterization of a style of thought

Abstract

In this article - which is a cut of a master's research - we present and discuss results about how researchers in the area of science education understand and work with the curricular perspective of the Thematic Approach. Based on the concepts of the epistemology of Ludwik Fleck, we investigate who are the researchers who are part of the esoteric circle of subjects and who, therefore, build knowledge on the subject. In this sense, also, after the identification of such circle, characteristics are presented about its constitution and, mainly, about the Thought Style of these subjects. From the analysis of interviews conducted with these researchers and also from elements derived from a bibliographic review process, it can be seen that the Thought Style of the group is strongly linked to Paulo Freire’s presuppositions. Also, it was identified proximity between the Thought Style and the nature of the Pedagogical Moments.

Possui graduação em Física pela Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (2015) e mestrado em Educação em Ciências pela mesma instituição (2017). Atualmente é estudante de pós-graduação/doutorado do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação em Ciências: Química da Vida e Saúde, da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria. Integrante do Grupo de Estudos e Pesquisas Educação em Ciências em Diálogo, desde o ano de 2012, tem experiência na área de Educação, com ênfase em Educação em Ciências, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: Abordagem Temática, Três Momentos Pedagógicos, Paulo Freire, Ludwik Fleck.

Cristiane Muenchen, Universidade Federal de Santa Maria

Possui graduação em Física Licenciatura Plena pela Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, mestrado em Educação pela mesma instituição e doutorado em Educação Científica e Tecnológica pela Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina. Atualmente é professora Adjunta da área de Ensino de Física e dos Programas de Pós-Graduação: Educação em Ciências - Química da Vida e Saúde (PPGECQVS) e Educação Matemática e Ensino de Física (PPGEM&EF) da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria. Coordena o Grupo de Estudos e Pesquisas Educação em Ciências em Diálogo (GEPECiD). Tem experiência na área de Ensino de Ciências/Física, com ênfase em inovações curriculares, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: Abordagem Temática, Três Momentos Pedagógicos como Estruturantes de Currículos, Configurações Curriculares mediante o enfoque CTS e Práticas Freireanas no Ensino de Ciências.
