<b>Introduction</b><br>

Norma Wimmer holds a M.A. (1983) and a Ph.D. in French Language and Literature from the University of São Paulo (1992). She conducted her post-doctoral research in Comparative Literature at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), under the supervision of Dr. Tania Carvalhal. She teaches at São Paulo State University, Campus of São José do Rio Preto (IBILCE/UNESP). Her present interests are Visconde de Taunay, the Paraguayan War, the interrelations between Literature and History, and translation. She has published on Brazilian Literature and on Comparative Literature.
