DATANIT: technical-scientific database of the technology innovation centers of brazilian universities

Abstract

Objective: To build a technical-scientific database capable of gathering information on the Technology Innovation Centers of Brazil’s leading universities.

Methods: This is an applied, descriptive study with a qualitative and quantitative approach. Data collection focused on 236 universities listed in the Ranking Universitário Folha (2023 e 2024) e Scimago Institution Ranking (2025), with intentional sampling to identify active Technology Innovation Centers. Data were compiled in spreadsheets and integrated into a digital platform developed using C#, Vue.js, HTML, and CSS.

Results: The DATANIT system consolidated data from 183 active NITs and offers features such as search mechanisms, georeferenced visualization, data export, and suggestions for new entries. Results indicate that the platform improves the organization and accessibility of information, strengthens the university innovation ecosystem, and provides strategic support to researchers, managers, and policy makers.

Conclusions: The study presents an innovative solution for centralizing data on Brazilian NITs, reinforcing the role of universities as key players in the national innovation ecosystem. DATANIT stands out as a strategic tool to enhance transparency and support interaction among academia, industry, and government.

Author Biographies

Rafael Gutierres Castanha, University of Marilia

PhD and Master in Information Science from the São Paulo State University (UNESP), Faculty of Philosophy and Sciences - FFC, Marília/SP, Specialist in training and mediation in distance education from the Virtual University of the State of São Paulo (UNIVESP) and graduated in Mathematics from the São Paulo State University (UNESP), Faculty of Sciences and Technology - FCT, Presidente Prudente/SP with an exchange period in the Mathematics Degree course at the University of Coimbra, (UC - Portugal). He participated in meetings, workshops, symposia and scientific congresses at national and international levels. He has complementary training in several areas of Mathematics, Education and Information Science. He has done freelance work in mathematical/statistical consulting and preparation/resolution of college entrance exam/Enem/Enade type questions, worked as a content teacher of Mathematics at the companies SGS Academy Group (Fábrica de Conteúdos) and SUPERPRO, as a teacher (monitor) of Mathematics at the Integrated Student Support System (SIAE - Pres. Prudente/SP), as a professor at Faculdade Católica Paulista, as a teaching facilitator and scholarship holder of the pedagogical training program in EaD at UNIVESP and as a guest professor of the Postgraduate Program in Information Science (PPGCI) at UNESP (campus Marília/SP) at the master's and doctoral levels. He is currently a research professor at the University of Marília (UNIMAR), in the undergraduate courses in technology and in the professional master's degree of the Postgraduate Program in Administration of Innovative Organizations (PPGA). He develops studies in Quantitative Methods applied to the production and organization of information, and is a member of the research groups Metric Studies of Information - GPEMI (UNESP - Marília/SP) and Applied Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (LIA2 - UNIMAR - Marília/SP).

Ana Lìvia Cazane, University of Marilia
