This article investigates the social basis of the information science through three authors of this field: Capurro, Shera e Wersig. In each one of these authors it was searched to identify traces that contributed for the Information Science foundation as a science with social aspects. Thus, it is followed by an epistemological nature argumentation about the possibility of being the IS a social science, advancing in the definition of its object by means of comparison with the social communication area. Finally, a last image of the metaphor order tries to locate the information science as a social science with hermeneutics characteristics.Downloads
