Abstract

Professional representations of librarians in Brazil are presented based on a research for a doctorate degree between the years of 2007 and 2008. Professional perception of librarians in relation to themselves, to Librarianship, to job market, to information technology and professional build up are especially focused. Results point to a critical appreciation of professionals in relation to their peers and indicate that their graduation course evaluation as well as age have influence on a more positive or negative perception of the job career. They acknowledge that the profession is not valued by society in general and associate this to, for instance, professional performance or low education investment.
