The digital cultural heritage, either of digital genesis or duplication, is a category considered in official documents on preservation, such as the Charter on Digital Heritage Preservation, published by UNESCO in 2003. It is also practice understood by heritage institutions, which pursue in these resources the protection of archives and the expansion of access by the public. The focus of this article is to discuss the digital cultural assets that arise from these practices. To this end, we discuss the changes in the original-copy dichotomy, the context of the digital asset as remembered, observed and imagined, and the approximation of the conceptual and preservationist guidelines with the intangible cultural heritage.
