Objective: Seeks to investigate the experiences of university libraries with publishing services, especially of materials such as books, theses, dissertations, textbooks, among other alternatives.
Methods: Bibliographic and field research (as regards the means of investigation), exploratory and descriptive (as regards its objectives), and from the point of view of data analysis and demonstration of results, it has a qualitative and quantitative approach.
Results: Through the literature review, it was verified that the production on the subject in the international literature is in advanced stages, mainly in the North American context. On the other hand, the theme in Brazil is little addressed in the literature. For this reason, it uses a semi-structured questionnaire as an instrument for data collection in the field with Brazilian university libraries (156 mapped), where it got 36 answers, finding five university libraries with experience in editorial production.
Conclusions: It concludes that the editorial practices in Brazilian university libraries are still not very mature, due to some gaps that each information unit needs to fill, but it develops the potential of librarians' performance in the development of such projects and recommends reading materials to foster the emergence of these initiatives in the national territory.
