Objective: To develop innovative solutions to solve problems that arise from the difficulty in reconciling the information registered in the system with the physical inventory in a teaching hospital pharmacy.
Method: Exploratory qualitative research – adopted method, case study. The sources of evidence were: interview, questionnaire, document analysis, direct observation and indirect observation with a design thinking approach. Three servants who work in a pharmacy at a teaching hospital, controlling the stock of medicines (receiving, storing and distributing) were the research subjects.
Result: The results show that there is a need to understand how medication stock control is carried out, who does it and how, in addition to identifying who used this control and their needs. In order to understand how individuals visualized this process, it was necessary to verify the occurrence of accidents, incidents and/or errors that could affect the medication stock control. With the aim of proposing innovative solutions based on design thinking methods for better information management in drug stock control, in order to facilitate and make it more effective.
Conclusions: New issues emerged that enabled better use of space to receive, store and distribute medications, confirming the importance of the design thinking approach to problem solving.
