Abstract

Beall’s List was discontinued in January 2017. It catalogued potential predatory publishers, known for publishing non-peer-reviewed open access articles with profit reasons. This leads to a pollution of the academic record with poorly reviewed pseudo-scientific data, which is harmful for science in general. In this interview, Beall discusses some aspects and impacts of predatory publishing, as well as the dilemma of open-access research and what different entities can do to diminish the influence of predatory journals.

Possui graduação em Turismo pela Universidade Federal do Paraná (2006). Mestrado em Letras/Inglês e Literatura Correspondente; linha de pesquisa: Ensino e Aprendizagem, pelo Programa de Pós Graduação em Inglês da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, UFSC. É professor de Inglês dos Cursos Extracurriculares e atualmente cursa a graduação em Letras Inglês pela Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina.

Vítor Pluceno Behnck, Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina

Mestrando no programa em Inglês: Estudos Linguísticos e Literários na Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina. Graduado em Letras Inglês - Licenciatura pela mesma universidade (2019). Técnico em Informática pelo Instituto Federal Catarinense (IFC) - Campus Avançado Sombrio (2018). Possui experiência como bolsista no Programa de Educação Tutotrial da UFSC (2020-2022), bolsista de Pesquisa (IFC, 2018), investigando o processo de internacionalização dos Institutos Federais e bolsista de Extensão (IFC, 2017) com enfoque na educação dos Direitos Humanos da juventude.

Jeffrey Beall, University of Colorado Denver

Jeffrey Beall is retired. Previously, he worked as the Scholarly Communications Librarian and Associate Professor at Auraria Library on the downtown Denver campus of the University of Colorado Denver. An academic librarian for over 27 years, his research and writing were featured in the Journal of Academic Librarianship, Cataloging & Classification Quarterly, College & Research Libraries and Nature.
