Abstract

O atual estágio de desenvolvimento da biotecnologia tem colocado o ser humano ante a possibilidade iminente da manipulação genética com fins de aperfeiçoamento. Tal acesso faz emergir desafios éticos, morais e políticos. A invenção de um ser humano melhor, mais desenvolvido, sugere um prometeísmo que desperta esperança, mas também medo. O objetivo desse artigo é analisar alguns dos dilemas éticos envolvidos no aperfeiçoamento humano, a partir de uma revisão do debate entre transhumantistas e bioconservadores.
