A trajetória de Chien Shiung Wu e a sua contribuição à Física

Resumo

O campo gênero e ciência tem contribuído para a construção de novas histórias, agora, de mulheres cientistas, novos olhares para a prática científica e novas reflexões para uma ciência mais representativa. Com o intuito de contribuir para mais histórias de mulheres nas ciências, discutiremos a trajetória da física experimental sino-estadunidense Chien Shiung Wu e a sua contribuição à física a partir da análise de literatura primária e secundária. Wu é considerada uma das mais importantes cientistas do século XX, desenvolvendo técnicas e experimentos que foram extremamente importantes para a física moderna, e, ainda assim, é pouco explorada pela literatura de história das ciências. Ao analisar a sua trajetória, percebemos que Wu enfrentou dificuldades e obstáculos de ordens distintas: segregação hierárquica e institucional, e discriminação de raça e gênero. Por fim, acreditamos que escrever histórias de mulheres cientistas possa contribuir para uma ciência mais representativa, e, consequentemente, para romper com a visão androcêntrica do fazer científico.

Biografia do Autor

Angevaldo Menezes Maia Filho, Universidade Federal da Bahia e Instituto Federal da Bahia

Tem formação técnica em mecânica industrial pelo IFBA; trabalhou por seis anos como técnico de manutenção na Refinaria Landulpho Alves, Petrobrás e por mais seis anos como técnico de laboratório na Escola Politécnica da Universidade Federal da Bahia. Fez Licenciatura e Bacharelado em Física na UFBA e mestrado pelo Programa de Pós Graduação em Ensino, Filosofia e História das Ciências da Universidade Federal da Bahia. Atualmente é doutorando deste mesmo programa e faz parte do grupo de pesquisa do Laboratório de Ciência como Cultura, trabalhando  com História  das ciências, focando na física do séc. XX e na história das mulheres na física. Professor de física do Instituto Federal da Bahia, Campus Jacobina.
