Biophilia: the scientific divulgation text and the enunciative strategies of translation

This work analyses the translation strategies on an unpublished translation experience of a chapter from the book Biophilia (1984). As a starting point, we questioned the notion of language and linguistic level in the theories of linguistic translation strategies, Vinay & Dalbernet (1969) and Chesterman (2016), aiming to look at translation through Benveniste’s (1989,1995) theory of enunciation. The theoretical background also covered the works about enunciation of Lichtenberg (2006), Nunes (2012), Melo (2012) and Hainzenreder (2016). The method was built on the interpretation of the source text and target text in the global plane, the enunciative act and situation, and in the analytical plane, the specific indexes and accessory proceedings. The results present the translator as a language analyst, revealing ascribed choices of interpretation, creativity and intersubjectivity, like the syntactic agency and addressee targeting.
