Stance, positioning and stereotype: a dialogue between sociolinguistic and discursive perspectives

The concept of identity is a subject of common interest in linguistic studies for the fields of Sociolinguistics (mainly third wave research) and Discourse Analysis alike. The article´s main proposal is to investigate points of connection between the notions of the aforementioned fields that dialogue with the concept of identity. Therefore, I present the results of bibliographic research on studies that focus on the “northeastern identity” from the two mentioned perspectives. The theoretical basis of this research mainly considers works of Variationist Sociolinguistics and French Discourse Analysis. The results primarily point to the confluence, although not stable, of terms from the two areas, “stance” and “positioning,” or even common uses of terms such as “stereotype”.
