Abstract

Objective: To analyze how the exploration of agency in the CodeCombat platform provides a deeper engagement with learning dynamics. Methodology: The Close Reading method was used, focusing on a detailed and critical evaluation of the CodeCombat platform. The techniques employed included the analysis of brief excerpts, direct immersion in the material, intentional re-readings, annotations, and discussions of relevant points in the text, as well as responding to specific questions about the content analyzed. Results: Students' engagement with the CodeCombat platform was high, especially in the initial activities, where tasks are short and assisted by the platform itself. Consistency in responses to commands was observed, along with a high level of involvement with the proposed activities. However, interactivity and personalization were limited, with little flexibility in navigation decisions. Value: The exploration of personal agency in gamified educational platforms, such as CodeCombat, provides an environment conducive to practicing and deepening learning dynamics, promoting active learning.
