Studies on the history of women in Portugal: major trends in the 21st century

Abstract

This essay provides a brief survey of the major trends of Portuguese historiography in the field of 19^th and 20^th century history of women and gender. In addition to problematizing the principal theoretical and methodological questions raised by this research field, the au! thor outlines a brief “history of the history” of its development in Portugal, and identifies the major themes that historians have been focusing on, pointing to the most recent contributions to the field.
