Abstract

The article observes the journalistic essayism of Albert Camus in order to understand and reflect on the author's conception regarding Journalism and journalistic work. In order to do so, it was elaborated a contextualization of the period in which the Algerian was inserted during the publication of the texts, in an attempt to elucidate the temperature provided by the historical conditions. Then, an outline of the author's chronological line as part of the process of understanding his thought and his formation as a thinker. Finally, the study realizes that Camus had an aversion to newspapers financed by advertising and big capital, noting that, in the absence of independence, there is corruption of journalistic values. In his outlook, journalistic practice requires a doctrinal look at society, being, in general terms, an intellectualized profession. The Journalism, in its turn, exceeds the purely practical character as it requires ethical commitment from the individual to the collectivity, functioning above all as a moral beacon of the society in which it is inserted.
