In this interview, José Manuel Santos discusses world history and analyzes, in a unique way, moments and facts from the period of the Union of Iberian Crowns and their impact on the Portuguese colonies, especialy in Brazil. In the dialogue with Ricardo Lara, issues related to nationalism and anachronism in historical investigations, the conception of world history, the policy of the Hispanic Monarchy towards the indigenous issue, the slave trade, the relationship between the Habsburgs and the jesuits and christians gain relevance.
