Mercosul and the State Reform: the decline of Social Security

Abstract

The present study deals with theoretical underpinnings that are the basis of State reform in Mercosul countries: Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. We intend to identify the concepts of State, civil society and market, as well as the new roles conferred to these participants in 1990´s. We also discuss the conception of public policies, the role of international institutions and the changes occurring in the scope of Social Security.

Ivete Simionatto, UFSC - Florianópolis - SC

Possui graduação em Serviço Social pela UFSC (1977), mestrado em Administração pela UFSC (1983), doutorado em Serviço Social pela PUCSP (1993) e pós-doutorado (2003) no European University Institute (Itália). Atualmente é adjunto I da UFSC. Tem experiência na área de Serviço Social, com ênfase em Fundamentos do Serviço Social, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: pensamento gramsciano, sociedade civil, Estado, políticas públicas e formação profissional.
