Male emotional domiannce on intimacy: A conversation with Eva Illouz

This paper discusses the theses proposed by Eva Illouz about the ways capitalism has been transforming the emotional life of people and, inspired by these insights, considers the transformations of intimacies and gender relations in Brazil. There are presented the preliminary results of an ongoing research about desires, frustrations and sufferings of heterosexual men and women in the spheres of love and sexuality, stressing the relevance of Illouz’s diagnostics on male emotinal domination when showing the many ways of regulating women’s sexuality and their limitations in sexual freedom.
