Front Page and Social Issues’ Visibility: A Comparative Analysis between Local Daily Newspapers from Two Regional Poles in the State of Paraná

This article presents a comparative analysis between two local daily newspapers from two towns in the state of Paraná (Ponta Grossa and Maringá) regarding their production of information on the front page. The local newspapers analyzed are Diário dos Campos from Ponta Grossa and Diário do Norte from Maringá. The period analyzed is that of the national and state elections of 2006. The layout of the information on the newspapers’ front pages is examined through the characteristics of form and content of the texts, in addition to the topographic localization and size in square centimeters of the headings. The aim is to identify which subjects are given the best spaces on the front page, since they are the most visible in a daily newspaper. This article hopes to contribute to the discussion about the value of news and about the visibility of thematics in printed periodicals.
